Today, if you search for elephant experiences near Jaipur, you will find dozens of options. Most of them are not worth your money. Some of them involve real animal suffering dressed up in colourful painted packaging.

At Elefantastic, the elephants are not treated as performers — they are treated as family. Each elephant has a unique personality, story, and name. Most of them are rescued from traditional labour or entertainment work and now live freely in a safe and nurturing environment.

The sanctuary is located in Haathi Gaon (Elephant Village), a government-built habitat near Amber Fort that was created specifically to support mahout families and their elephants. Just 3 kilometres from Amber Fort and about 9 kilometres from Jaipur city centre, Elefantastic has turned its space in Haathi Gaon into a peaceful retreat for both elephants and humans.

Meeting your elephant. The first contact is always important. When meeting an elephant for the first time, you let them catch your smell. You make them feel comfortable by stroking and talking to them while looking into their eyes. The elephant feels your energy and spirit. You are not rushed. There is no horn blast, no group herding. It is a slow, intentional introduction.
Learning elephant language. There is a certain language to communicate with elephants, and visitors are taught the basics of this language. The mahouts explain the sounds, the body movements, and the signals that elephants use. Feeding. You feed the elephant directly by hand. Fruits, vegetables, sugarcane. The elephant's trunk wrapping around your hand to take food is one of those physical experiences that does not translate well into photographs but stays with you for years.
Walking beside the elephant. You walk with the elephant through the sanctuary grounds. Not on it. Beside it. Visitors are encouraged to engage in interactive experiences that prioritise the elephants' comfort — feeding, walking, bathing, and learning — all without riding or forced activities. This approach allows guests to bond with elephants naturally, building trust through gentle communication and care.
Painting. Visitors participate in the traditional practice of decorating the elephant with natural, non-toxic colours. This is done gently and consensually — if the elephant shows discomfort, the activity stops. The paints used are made from natural ingredients and wash off safely.
Bathing. The elephant is washed in a water area while you participate. This is typically the most joyful and chaotic part of the experience. You will get wet. Visitors walk with the elephant and then wash her — a very nice experience that is highly recommended by most guests who visit.
A home-cooked meal. Your package includes one meal, either breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This is a home-cooked meal prepared by Rahul's mother. It is vegetarian, Rajasthani home food, and consistently one of the things guests mention in their reviews. After spending hours outdoors, sitting down to a proper home-cooked meal is a genuinely warm ending to the experience.
Elefantastic operates on a pre-booked session model. You cannot simply show up and pay at the gate. The fees are comprehensive and typically start around Rs. 5,500 per person for a day excursion package. This is not a mere entry fee but an all-inclusive cost for the guided, hands-on experience covering feeding, bathing, walking, and learning, all materials including natural paint, and a complete home-cooked vegetarian meal.
For foreign tourists specifically, the price for foreign adults is approximately Rs. 5,500 per person, with children under 12 at Rs. 2,550, and children under 4 free.
To put this in perspective for foreign visitors: at current exchange rates, this works out to roughly 60 to 65 US dollars per person For a three-hour immersive experience that includes a meal, this is reasonable value compared to similar ethical elephant experiences in Thailand or Sri Lanka, which often cost significantly more.
